England 09

A huge cheer greeted the news that the England Farriery teamhad snatched the 30th International Team Horseshoeing Competition Championship from Wales. The prizegiving was the culmination of three days' intense competition over the August bank holiday weekend.

The individual competition was won by Billy Crothers (Wales) who took the crown for the seventh time and after a seven-year interval. Billy was a member of last year's winning welsh team.

Fourteen teams - Belgium, the British Army, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Norway, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, USA and Wales - competed this year. The event is organised by NAFBAE with assistance from many volunteers, stewards, judges, scorers, supporters and sponsors.

Forge congratulates the many winners, as well as those runners up who embraced NAFBAE's aims for the competition, namely to test the skills of forging and horseshoeing, to promote excellence in farriery in a spirit of good sportsmanship and friendly competitions.

A full report and results will appear in the October issue of Forge.

Each team is invited to bring along an item that can be auctioned during the prizegiving dinner. This year's auction raised £3155 that will be split between NAFBAE and its chosen charity, Riding for the Disabled.

Thank you to all the Apprentices who came forward and helped at this event.
If you would like to help out at further NAFBAE events please give Amanda a call on the number below.

The International Team Horseshoeing Championship is the pinnacle of the farriery competition calendar.
Attracting the top competitors from 14 countries, the NAFBAE organised event runs over three gruelling days. It demands precision, speed and stamina with the competitors under pressure from the moment they move on to the shoeing floor.

Whether you are a competitor or just interested to see what the teams will be faced with, come along and take a look.

27th August - Teams arrive for practice and the competition begins on Friday.
Sunday evening is for the prize presentations.
