Question: How do I become a Farrier? Answer: Contact the Farriers Training Agency for a Guide to Advanced Modern Apprenticeships in Farriery.

Question: Am I insured if I work on a horse that does not have a passport? Answer: The insurance broker, Eastlake & Beachell, has confirmed that the personal accident insurance that comes with your membership does cover you to work on a horse that does not have a passport. more info

Question: What courses can I do to train as a Blacksmith? Answer: Warwickshire College and Herefordshire College both run courses on Blacksmithing, please look at the link section of this site. The BABA website also contains details of other course offered throughout the country. BABA Website

Question: How can I Find a Farrier / Blacksmith? Answer: The Association holds the contact details of all its members. The Farriers Registration Council also provides contact details for farriers Go to the website and Find a Farrier. The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths has a list of Blacksmiths on their website. Question: How do I get onto the Champion Blacksmith Awards Circuit? Answer: The Champion Blacksmith is the smith who wins, or is runner-up at a maximum number of competitions at certain County Shows. The National Blacksmith Championship Committee, on which the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths is represented, approves the participating shows. The Company presents to the winner the National Championship Blacksmith Cup, a certificate and a cash prize. The runner-up also receives a cash prize.
The Best Blacksmith award is given to the smith who receives the highest total points from all the County Shows which run a hot or live forging competition. The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths presents the winner a plaque and a cash prize.
The approved shows are; North Somerset Show, Devon County Show, Royal Bath and West Show, Three Counties Show, Royal Highland Show, Royal Show, Royal Welsh, New Forest, Edenbridge and Oxted and Live International Show. Dates for these shows can be found on the diary page of this website.
