After two punishing but good humoured days of competition, Wales finally triumphed to take the title from England at the International Team Horseshoeing Championships 2010.
At a sometimes emotional prize giving ceremony, Jim Blurton, Wales Team Captain, acknowledged his teams success, but at the same time dedicated their victory to colleague Richard Ellis, who is currently very ill. "You may have noticed, we are a man down," he said.
Billy Crothers paid tribute to the other teams and also the organisers, BFBA, for the changes to the format of the competition which had been well received.
Having also picked up the award for Best Individual Score, Billy also thanked the assembled company for their support and encouragement for his wife Lucy who was also recovering from serious illness.
The England Apprentice Team steamed ahead to win and JC Lee, also of England was top individual.

Updated format for the International
This year’s International Team Horseshoeing Championship is the 31st run by NAFBAE and features some key updates to the format.
An extensive review took place at the end of last year’s event and input was sought from the competing teams.
As a result, some key improvements have been made that will make it even more challenging for the teams and more exciting for spectators.
The main change has been to make it just a ‘team’ event. There will be no individual competition and the rules have been altered to allow more teamwork - team tactics, if you like.
The competition has also been shortened to two days, plus a practice day. This makes it better suited to the revised format; two shoeing rounds, a gas shoemaking round and an apprentice team shoemaking competition.
Having spoken to the team managers, the organisers also took a view that reducing the costs of attending for the teams in terms of working days, hotels and travel would also be welcomed.
One of the great strengths of the event is its International flavour, which presents great opportunities for competitors to learn from each other.
So another initiative has been introduced whereby the team managers based in UK have taken on a liaison role for a number of the foreign teams.
The idea is that this will aid communications - in both directions - and in turn minimise any possibility that language will hinder the performance of the teams from overseas.
True to the spirit of the event, this year the judges are -
Jim Quick, USA - Open Teams
Ulrich Wenger, Switzerland - Open Teams
Derek Gardner, England - Apprentice

Each team is invited to bring along an item that can be auctioned during the prizegiving dinner. Last year's auction raised £3155 that will be split between NAFBAE and its chosen charity, Riding for the Disabled.
