Have you renewed your Certified Euro-Farrier Registration?
Being a Certified Euro-Farrier is particularly useful for those who are thinking of practising farriery elsewhere in Europe, as most European nations now recognise the qualification. Interestingly, many European countries are now transferring responsibility for controlling farriery from manufacturing and metalworking departments of state to those responsible for animal welfare. The requirement for registration of farriers is also spreading to more nations, with a number setting the required standard of initial training as that set out in EFFA’s document The European Farrier in the 21st Century.
Did you know that you need to renew your registration as a Certified Euro-Farrier every year if you want to continue using the title and displaying the vehicle window sticker? Unlike the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers, which once achieved can be used indefinitely, the title of Certified Euro-Farrier, like most professional qualifications, needs to be renewed annually. Once you have been issued with a certificate, you are eligible to apply each year, but an annual payment of 10 Euros must be made to the European Federation of Farriers (EFFA) before you can continue using the title.
In the past BFBA made the payment on your behalf out of your annual membership fee, if you were a member of the Association, or after receiving payment from those who were not members. However, the Association feels that it can no longer afford to offer this benefit, and if you wish to continue calling yourself a Certified Euro-Farrier, you will need to pay the Association the 10 Euros plus a small handling charge, giving a sum due of £17. Payment should be made to Head Office at the Forge by cheque or postal order made out to the British Farriers and Blacksmiths Association, and the office will then forward this to EFFA on your behalf.
As soon as EFFA has received your payment, it will issue you with a vehicle window sticker and ensure that your name appears in the list of CE-Fs on the EFFA website.
