Cavalry pairs competition
It was a full house this year, with 24 pairs competing in the Cavalry Pairs Shoeing Competition hosted by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Hyde Park Barracks, Knightsbridge on March 2. In the competition, each pair shoes one side of a horse, making and fitting a front and hind shoe in one hour. This was the first competition of the season and it was judged by Gary Darlow, who felt that some of the competitors were a little out of practice, but he said despite that they had turned out some excellent shoes.
Lt Col Bedford, commanding officer of HCMR kindly gave permission to hold the competition at Knightsbridge and came along to give his support. The Master of the Worshipful Company of Farriers, Evelyn Webb Carter, presented the prizes.
The event was organised by Farriery Lance Corporal of Horse Adam Bliss and the sponsors included Mustad, Eastlake and Beachell, MNC, Handmade Shoes, the Worshipful Company of Farriers, Life Data Labs, Vettec, NWT, Stromsholm, Dodson and Horrell, Arthur Cottams, Simon Curtis, Swan, Londonderry Forge and Silverback chaps.
