BREAKING NEWS - 20 MARCH 2012 -
BFBA September event expands further
Following the success of Farriery Focus and the new format International Team Horseshoeing Championships at Stoneleigh, a new addition to the September weekend event is set to make it an even bigger spectacle.
Friday 28 September will now feature the BFBA National Farriery Championships to find the top British competition farrier of 2012.
This will lead into the International Team Horseshoeing Championships on the Saturday and Sunday.
Farriery Focus will run throughout Saturday with top speakers and demonstrations from the world of farriery.
BFBA President, Gary Burton DipWCF, explains:
“In the last couple of years the Association has been developing its role - launching the now well established Farriery Focus, the improved International Team Horseshoeing Championships, apprentice Pre-Diploma exams and this year a pre-AWCF work-up course.
The National Farriery Championships have also remained a very important part of this, but even when it was held during the Royal Show, it really wasn’t at a great time. This is the showpiece of the top British competitors, but we have forever been trying to fit it into the heart of the season and often too close to the Calgary World Blacksmithing Championships, let alone other significant UK competitions.
It also doesn’t make a lot of sense running a championship event before all the qualifying events have been held.
Because it has always been for the top few and a shoeing competition rather than just a shoemaking event, it has always really needed to be part of a larger event.
With the end of the Royal Show, then the Royal Festival of the Horse, I genuinely felt that Land Rover Max would again give us that extra fun element. It would seem, however, that too has been cancelled this year!
Entries last year were not as strong as we’d have liked. The cost of staging a competition like this isn’t trivial. I’m sure you will agree that it also isn’t right that the Association should be forced into the position of making a loss on a competition that is run for the benefit of just a few members.
Therefore, it seems to me completely logical to bring the National Championships together with the International and create one big spectacle that will be much easier and less costly to run as well as being more interesting for visitors and sponsors alike.”
Full details for visitors and competitors of the BFBA Farriery Championships weekend and Farriery Focus will be available in the pages of Forge Magazine and the website www.forgemagazine.co.uk
In the meantime, do put these dates in your diary – Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September 2012.
