EFCC 2014 – Purchase your tickets!

Much has been done since the last issue of Forge and the BFBA Craft Committee has been busy making further preparations.
The Entry Forms for the Championships have been received and many exhibitors and sponsors have been confirmed. Thank you to all the businesses who have already pledged support toward this event, no matter what size of contribution has been made, your support is essential.
The website – www.efcc2014.com – is now live and is updated on a daily basis as competitors, exhibitors and sponsors are confirmed. Do check it regularly! We are delighted to confirm the ‘box office’ is now open and tickets can be purchased online (through Eventbrite) by following one of the many links throughout the website. There is a huge saving for General Admission tickets purchased before 26th June 2014 – make sure you purchase early. Demand for a place in one of the superb ‘Hands On’ Clinics is exceptionally high – we are limited to just 18 spaces a day – don’t delay in securing your place.
Dave Jones has kindly offered to recruit willing Stewards – we need a small army – if you are able to help in anyway, for one, two or three days, we would love to hear from you! Please call Dave on 07837 668735 to offer your services.
The Marketplace is looking great with many exhibitors, clinics and product demonstrations confirmed. If you are a Supplier or Manufacturer and you have not yet confirmed your attendance please do get in touch so we can add you to the website and include you in the programme. Contact
Jonathan Nunn (email [email protected] or call 07971 280478) or Claire Brown (email [email protected] or call 07747 602978) for a brochure and application form or if you have any queries.
By the time we post our next update it will be the last Forge before The Event!

The BFBA Craft Committee met in the International Arena at Myerscough College in early December to discuss plans for the coming weeks; in just four months’ time the BFBA will host the largest farriery event the UK has seen, incorporating one of the most prestigious and sought after competitive farriery titles, that of European Champion.
The Convention has confirmed a select list of elite farriers who will be presenting and demonstrating over the course of the weekend, providing an educational and thought-provoking experience. Clinicians confirmed to date include: Simon Curtis FWCF, Allan Ferrie FWCF, Jim Ferrie FWCF, Darren Bazin AWCF, Jim Blurton AWCF, Paul Conroy BSc (Hons) AWCF, Jon Atkinson DipWCF, Ian Allison DipWCF and Denis Leveillard. The clinic days will be tailored towards qualified farriers and apprentices to ensure the weekend is appropriate and fulfilling at all levels.
At the time of writing, the entry forms for the European Championships are with the team organisers in each country. Up to four individuals may compete from each European country holding EFFA membership. Selection for the UK team is in progress and currently includes Steven Beane AWCF (England), Sarah-Mary Brown AWCF (Scotland) and Nigel Brown AWCF (Wales). The representative for the British Army is yet to be confirmed. Ireland is a member of EFFA in its own right and its team will include Paul Robinson AWCF, Edward O’Shaughnessy AWCF, William O’Shaughnessy AWCF and Rodney Ross DipWCF.
The Marketplace will be a hive of activity, with the very best of our industry suppliers displaying their products both existing and new, with the opportunity to use a ‘Product Demonstration Area’ to ensure that you get the best from the products you may wish to purchase. As a supplier or manufacturer, if you are interested in purchasing a position in the marketplace please contact Jonathan Nunn
(email [email protected] or call 07971 280478) or Claire Brown (email [email protected] or call
07747 602978) for a brochure and application form.
The Championship and Convention, put together in a stunning Arena aim to showcase the very best of our industry is an event you cannot miss. July 25th – 27th is a date to be stamped in your diary!
The website, www.efcc2014.com, currently under construction, will be an essential resource as we move towards the event and will be updated as each and every detail is confirmed. Follow progress on both Facebook and Twitter too.
The next Craft Committee meeting is planned in mid-February where we will bring together information and assign new tasks. We are already aware of the need for a large number of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of such an event and we ask that you consider playing your role. We cannot do this without your help. If you are interested in ‘signing up’ please email Claire Brown (contact details above) and we will add you to the list and keep you informed.
Until the next issue of Forge Magazine, BFBA Craft Committee.

European Championship come to the UK next year
In 2014, the prestigious European Farriery Championship will be hosted by the BFBA
at Myerscough College, Preston, Lancashire, with judges Aksel Vibe of Norway and Vincent Lamaille of Belgium.

The championship event will be held in the college’s International Arena, while alongside it there will be a large market place area for exhibitors and manufacturers offering tools, shoes, equipment, hoofcare treatments, nutrition, and advice.

The event will have a British title this year - The BFBA European Championship and Convention – and it will take place on July 25 to 27, so put the date in your diary now. The convention, on July 26 and 27, will be an educational event for spectators and attendees. It is being organised by the BFBA’s Craft Committee, chaired by Jonathan Nunn.

Close to the arena are the colleges fixed coke and gas forges, which will be available for use, offering the opportunity for mini clinics and hands-on clinics. Among the key speakers and clinicians who have agreed to present lectures and hold forging demonstrations are Darren Bazin AWCF, Grant Moon AWCF, Jim Blurton AWCF, Billy Crothers AWCF, Jon Atkinson DipDWCF, and Jim and Allan Ferrie FWCF, and attendees will be able to pre-book clinics with them. There will also be a market place demonstration area for product demonstrations, with the likes of Billy Crothers and Andrew Poynton. Companies will be able to hire the demonstration area.

As Jon Nunn says: ‘This event is shaping up to be one of the largest educational events and competitions combined ever to take place in the UK’. The Forge website and Facebook pages will be updated as details are confirmed so log on to www.forgemagazine.co.uk regularly.
