The Worshipful Company of Farriers Horse Brass

The Worshipful Company of Farriers is one of the livery companies of the city of London. These are the descendants of the original City Guilds, which were set up to look after the interests of a wide variety of trades by considering the welfare of their members, and by ensuring that the quality of their work is up to standard. The records of the Farriers Company go back to 1356.
The WCF has as its objective the welfare of the horse, through the encouragement and improvement of the art of farriery to the highest possible standard. Its legal responsibility is running the qualifying examination for farriers – the Diploma – and in 1907, the company introduced the Associate examination, involving corrective shoeing, which is of great value in assisting veterinary surgeons in the treatment of lameness. The highest qualification, the Fellowship, was introduced in 1923 to test the ability of a farrier to teach, write and examine.
2012 will be a great celebratory year for London. The Company would like to be represented in the Lord Mayor’s Show, with a horse-drawn entry as part of what is one of the greatest annual events in the country.
