morenafbae branches
The Association has many branches spread around the country. These branches hold a minimum of three meetings a year where Farriers/Blacksmiths can meet and discuss any problems they have faced in their local area. It is a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and also to discuss new techniques with like-minded people. If you would like more information on your local branch please contact the Associations Head Office.

Obituary - Daphne Gowing
Earlier this year the Eastern Counties Branch and the National Association lost another dear friend Daphne Gowing, wife of the Past President Richard Gowing. Daphne was born in Soham, Cambridgeshire and was a real Fen girl. She met Richard at Home Farm this was the home of the famous Suffolk horse stud. Richard was Farm Blacksmith and later Farm Manager, Daphne was the Farm Secretary and Wages Clerk they worked together on the farm for 25 years. They married in 1956 and were together for 52 years.
They then started their own business as Village Blacksmith in Soham, where Daphne was Bookkeeper, Shop Assistant and The Boss. She supported Richard in all his time as a Member and President of NAFBAE, with heavy horse activities and as Commons Reeve, the last time I saw Daphne was on Kings Cross Station she was going to a Company dinner with Richard.
Daphne was a Sunday School Teacher and active member of the Berrycroft Methodist Church, Soham where her funeral service was held and donations for McMillan nurses was requested instead of flowers, which raised £1,000 for the charity. She will be sadly missed by Richard, family and many friends.
